Set a password on a Cisco switch

This lesson shows how to log in to a Cisco switch and set passwords. The video is in Khmer.

Example commands

Set a password for console access:

enable
configure terminal
line console 0
password YOUR_CONSOLE_PASSWORD
login
exit

Set a password for privileged EXEC mode:

enable secret YOUR_ENABLE_PASSWORD

Save your settings:

end
copy running-config startup-config

Replace the example password text with your own strong password. Do not share your password.

Tips

• Practice in Packet Tracer before using a real switch.
• enable secret protects privileged EXEC access. Prefer it over enable password.
• The login command tells the console line to ask for its password.
• Save your changes so they stay after the switch restarts.
