Basic Cisco device modes

Cisco switches and routers use command-line modes:

• User EXEC mode — You see >. Use basic show commands.
• Privileged EXEC mode — You see #. Use enable to enter this mode.
• Global configuration mode — You see (config)#. Use configure terminal to enter and change device settings.
• Other configuration modes — You can enter settings for a line or interface from global configuration mode.

Use exit to go back one mode. Use end to return to privileged EXEC mode.
