01 - How to Download and Install Windows Server 2012 R2 (Video in Khmer)

Hello my friend! Today I show you step-by-step how to download and install Windows Server 2012 R2 from official website and setup inside Virtual Machine (VMware Workstation Pro)! You can also use other VM software like VirtualBox or Hyper-V! Very easy to follow with code steps and video tutorial in Khmer! Let's get started!

Step 1: Download Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO File

Before creating virtual machine, you need official Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO image file.

1. Go to Microsoft Evaluation Center: Search for Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO on official Microsoft site.
2. Select 64-bit ISO Edition: Download the 64-bit ISO file format.
3. Free 180-Day Trial: Microsoft provides free evaluation license for 180 days so you can test all features!

💡 Tip: Always download ISO file directly from official Microsoft website or trusted source to avoid modified or infected image files!

Step 2: Create Virtual Machine in VMware Workstation

After ISO download finished, open your VMware Workstation Pro to create new Virtual Machine:

1. Start Wizard: Click File > New Virtual Machine (or press Ctrl + N).
2. Select Configuration: Choose Typical (Recommended) and click Next.
3. Attach ISO File: Select Installer disc image file (iso), click Browse, and choose your Windows_Server_2012_R2.iso.
4. Name Virtual Machine: Set VM Name (example: Win-Server-2012-R2) and choose folder location to save VM files.
5. Disk Capacity: Specify disk size at least 50 GB and choose Store virtual disk as a single file.
6. RAM Memory: Customize hardware and allocate at least 2048 MB (2 GB) or 4096 MB (4 GB) RAM for smooth performance.

💡 Tip: Make sure Virtualization Technology (VT-x / AMD-V) is enabled inside your physical computer BIOS/UEFI settings!

Step 3: Install Windows Server 2012 R2 OS

Now virtual machine is ready, let's start installation process!

1. Power On VM: Click Power on this virtual machine.
2. Select Language & Time: Choose your language, time format, keyboard layout, and click Next -> Install Now.
3. Choose Edition with GUI: Select Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter (Server with a GUI) or Standard (Server with a GUI)!
4. Accept License: Check I accept the license terms and click Next.
5. Installation Type: Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
6. Select Drive Partition: Select unallocated drive space and click Next to start copying files.
7. Set Administrator Password: After reboot finish, create strong password for Administrator account!

⚠️ Warning: Always choose Server with a GUI! If you select "Server Core", Windows will install WITHOUT desktop GUI screen (only black command prompt window)!
