Hello my friend! In this lesson, we learn what a database (មូលទិន្នន័យ​ ឬ មូលដ្ឋានទិន្នន័យ)is and see some common types of databases. The videos are in Khmer.

1. Introduction to Database

What is a database?

A database is a place to store information in an organized way. For example, a school database can store student names, classes, and test scores.

A database management system (DBMS) is software that helps us create and use a database. MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server are examples.

2. Types of Databases

Different databases store and organize information in different ways. Here are two common types:

• Relational database: Stores information in tables with rows and columns. Tables can connect to each other. MySQL and PostgreSQL are examples.
• NoSQL database: Stores information in flexible formats, such as documents or key-value pairs. MongoDB is one example.

There are other database types too. The best type depends on the information and the application.
